Monotonous Mist People of Sector 7G

A cloud-like being emitting a gray haze

The Monotonous Mist People of Sector 7G are a gaseous sentient species inhabiting the Vaporous Void region of Sector 7G. Known throughout the galaxy for their extraordinarily limited range of emotional expression and their unique language consisting entirely of variations of the sound "meh," they exist in a perpetual state of mild disinterest.

Biology

The Mist People exist as collections of semi-conscious vapor particles held together by Boredom Fields, a unique form of energy that maintains their cohesion through pure indifference. Their gaseous bodies naturally emit a gray haze that induces mild drowsiness in other species. Each individual can modulate their density to form temporary pseudopods for manipulating objects, though they rarely bother to do so.

Culture and Society

Communication

The Mist People's language, known as Mehspeak, consists of exactly 427 different intonations of "meh," each expressing a slightly different shade of apathy. Their most passionate declaration, "meh-MEH-meh," roughly translates to "I suppose that's marginally acceptable."

Social Structure

Society is organized into Vapor Communes, where individuals drift together in loose associations based primarily on similar density levels. Leadership positions are assigned to whoever happens to be closest to the Administrative Vapor Vent during mandatory quarterly meetings.

Technology

Despite their apparent lethargy, the Mist People have developed several notable technologies:

  • The Apathy Engine, which converts emotional indifference into sustainable energy
  • Vapor-Phase Computing, allowing them to process data through shifts in their gaseous state
  • Meh-Mail, a communication system that automatically reduces all messages to their most basic, uninteresting components

Cultural Impact

The Mist People maintain diplomatic relations with various species, particularly the Bureaucrats of Blandor, who appreciate their ability to remain perfectly still during lengthy administrative procedures. They are frequent contributors to the Committee for Watching Paint Dry, where their natural state allows them to observe paint drying at the molecular level.
