What is Hehepedia?
Hehepedia is a website that allows you to create your own fictional encyclopedias using generative AI. Encyclopedias, referred to as wikis, are in a familiar Wikipedia-like format, with articles linked to one another, as well as to the encyclopedia's homepage.
What's a wiki?
Wikis are the main way to organize content on Hehepedia. Each wiki has a homepage, which is the first page you see when you create the wiki. Wikis grow mainly through the creation of articles. Wikis can also have a new homepage generated every day in Live mode.
Every wiki also has an index, a list of all articles in the wiki, and a gallery, a list of all images in the wiki.
Page types
Wikis have two types of pages: homepages and articles.
Wiki Homepages
A homepage is the first pages you see when you create a wiki or visit its base address.
So, for example, a wiki called "Anthropomorphic Pizzas" would live at https://www.hehepedia.ai/anthropomorphic-pizzas
where you could find its homepage.
Articles
Articles are the main content pages within a wiki. Articles are more specific than homepages, and usually focus on a single topic within the broader context of the wiki.
For example, you may want an article entitled "Luigi the Sicilian with a Low Taper Fade" in the "Anthropomorphic Pizzas" wiki. This article would live at https://www.hehepedia.ai/anthropomorphic-pizzas/luigi-the-sicilian-with-a-low-taper-fade
.
How do I use Hehepedia?
You can read, edit, and most importantly, create Hehepedia wikis and articles. You can also like and share pages.
Read Hehepedia Wikis
Everyone is free to read public wikis, but you must register to create your own.
Navigating Hehepedia Wikis
Navigating a Hehepedia wiki is as simple as clicking on a link. Assuming the article exists, you'll be taken to its page! If the article doesn't exist yet, you can register to request that it be created.
Why are some links different colors?
A link is light blue if the article it links to exists. It will appear dark blue if the article doesn't exist yet.
Wiki indexes and galleries
Every wiki also has an index page that lists all of its articles. You can access the index in the Actions dropdown menu at the top of any page. You'll also find a gallery on the index page. The gallery shows all images from the wiki's homepages and its articles.
Reporting illegal or derogatory content
Although Hehepedia has internal controls designed to prevent generation of illegal or disrespectful content, our staff is small, and we can't catch everything. We offer a flagging system to allow users to report content that they believe violates local law or is otherwise inappropriate.
You can report a wiki or page by clicking the Flag link in the Actions dropdown menu on any page. Please leave comments stating clearly why you are flagging the content.
Create Hehepedia Wikis
You need to register to create a new wiki.
Once registered, you can make a new wiki by clicking the "new wiki" link on the top right-hand side of any page.
Making a new wiki is easy. We suggest writing a description of the wiki's topic in the description box (there is a 2000 character limit). But if you're feeling uninspired, lazy, or just in the mood for some random fun, you can select the "surprise me" checkbox to have Hehepedia generate a wiki with random topics for you.
Wiki and Article Creation Credits
Currently users are limited to creating 5 wikis per day and 20 articles per day. Your available page creation credits display on your profile page, and available wiki credits display on the new wiki page.
I'm out of credits! How can I get more?
Credits replenish on a rolling basis 24 hours after you use them. For example, if today you create 1 wiki at 4 PM and 1 wiki at 6 PM, you will see your balance increase by 1 at 4 PM tomorrow, and again by 1 at 6 PM tomorrow.
At the moment, it's not possible to purchase additional credits or upgrade the number of credits you receive. We're thinking about the most sustainable way to make this possible. Reach out to us at info@hehepedia.ai if you have any suggestions!
Creating a private wiki
If you're not ready to go public with your wiki from the start, you can mark your wiki as Private when you create it. This will make your wiki only visible to you. Later, you can change the privacy of your wiki by clicking the Public or Private link in the Actions dropdown menu on any page.
Limits on creating wikis
At the moment, you can only create 3 wikis per day. Wiki creation costs money since it uses AI services and models, but we hope you have fun creating within the limit. We aim to increase this limit in the future!
Create Hehepedia Articles
You also need to register to create articles. Once you're registered, you can create articles in any public wiki.
Creating articles from links
The easiest way to create articles is to click on a link on an existing wiki homepage or article. If the article doesn't exist yet, you'll be given the option to create it. If you accept, Hehepedia will generate a new article on the topic of the link.
Creating articles from prompts
You can also create articles by clicking the "+ page" button in the Actions dropdown menu on any existing wiki or article. This will open a prompt box where you can write a description of the article you want to create.
When you submit, Hehepedia will generate an article on the topic of your prompt. Keep in mind that the article will be in the context of its wiki, so it will refer to other articles and ideas already in the wiki. Articles created this way also tend to include more context from the page where you clicked "+ page".
Limits on creating articles
At the moment, you can only create 10 articles per day. Article creation costs money since it uses AI services and models, but we hope you have fun creating within the limit. We aim to increase this limit in the future!
Why does creating pages sometimes take a long time?
Hehepedia has limited resources, and sometimes all resources are already being used for creating other articles or images. When this happens, your page request will be added to a queue.
Once your page is ready, it will appear on your profile page. We hope to make this faster in the future, and we're also thinking of good ways to keep you updated on the status of your page creations.
You may notice that text appears before images. This is expected; it happens because the LLM models for text generation respond much faster than the text-to-image models.
Editing pages
Both wiki homepages and articles can be edited, but unlike article creation, editing is only available to the wiki's creator. You can edit a page by clicking the Edit link in the Actions dropdown menu on any page on a wiki you created.
Hehepedia Markdown
Wikis and articles are edited using markdown syntax, but Hehepedia also uses double brackets as a convenient way to link to resources within a wiki.
For example, if you're editing an article in the "History's Greatest Fluid Disasters" you can link to that wiki's "Great Mayonnaise Accidents in History" article just by writing [[Great Mayonnaise Accidents in History]].
If you were in the "Speculative Fluid Dynamics", you'd have to use a standard markdown link if you were to link to this same article. Using double brackets would create a link to a different page of the same title in the "Speculative Fluid Dynamics" wiki itself.
Restoring old page versions
When you edit a page, you have the option to archive the current text as a saved version. If you choose to do this, you'll be able to restore that old version if you choose to do so later. Saved versions are listed on the page's edit page.
Generating images
All images on Hehepedia are generated from the text of the page where they appear, so at the moment, users don't give any direct input into image prompts. This also means they're not always perfect! We're thinking about ways to make this better.
What if I don't like an image that appears on my page?
If you really don't like an image that appears on your page, you can always edit it out. See the section on editing pages above to learn how to edit.
Why does generating an image sometimes take so long?
Image generation is one of the most intensive and expensive tasks Hehepedia performs. With our current resources, image generation will always take at least a few seconds. Sometimes there's a queue, in which case it might take much longer. We hope to speed this up in the future!
Additional Features
Most additional featurs are available to registered users via the Actions dropdown menu shown at the top of every wiki page.
Liking pages
Wikis and articles can both be liked. Liking a page will add it to one of the "liked" lists visibile to you and others on your profile page.
Liking a page will also increase the page's popularity, making it more likely to be featured on the Hehepedia front page.
Sharing pages
You can share a page by clicking the Share link in the Actions dropdown menu on any page. Sharing is set up for a number of social media platforms, and will often provide you with a nicely formatted post about the page.
Public and Private wikis
The creator of a wiki can choose to make it Public or Private. You can change the privacy of a wiki by clicking the Public or Private link in the Actions dropdown menu on any page.
Public wikis are visible to all users, while Private wikis are only visible to their creator.
Currently, this simple model will remove visibility of the wiki, its articles, and its images for all other users. Please be aware that although other users can create articles within your wiki, they will no longer be able to see them when you set your wiki to Private.
Live wikis
Live wikis get a new homepage for every 24 hours they are marked as Live. You can make a wiki Live by clicking the Static link in the Actions dropdown menu on any page. The opposite of a Live wiki is a Static wiki (this is the default setting).
When set to Live, a new homepage is generated daily that takes into account newly generated articles and images from the wiki, so it's a fun and organic way to explore the content of the wiki. Live wiki homepage generations do not count towards your daily article or wiki creation limit.
Previous days' homepages are also available and can be scrolled back on the info bar at the top of the homepage. If you turn off Live mode, the most recently generated homepage will remain available at the wiki's base address. You can get a new homepage by clicking the Static link in the Actions dropdown menu and waiting for 24 hours.
Limits on Live wikis
At the moment, you can only have 3 Live wikis at a time. If you want to make a wiki Live and you've reached this limit, you'll need to turn off another Live wiki first.
We hope to increase this limit in the future, but as with wiki and article creation, Live wikis cost money, so they must be limited at this time.
